We took time for one more hike at Zion before breaking for Moab. If you've never been here, you really need a week to see the park. This hike took us to the upper emerald pool, which is at the base of a 300' waterfall. It was only about 3 miles with a 350' elevation gain, but the trail did undulate quite a bit. The temperature difference from the trail to the pool was extreme, maybe 30° cooler at the pool.
Fall from middle to lower pond.
You can stand below this fall and get a nice shower.
The main fall at the upper pond from a distance. The hike takes you into a cavern at the base of this fall.
Brendon rock climbing next to the fall at upper pond.
I took this using Panaramio app on my iPhone. Delaney cooling off.
After spending the afternoon running errands in Moab we drive to the point here at Dead Horse State Park. It's amazing. There is a narrow choke point on the way to the overlook that's only 30' wide where cowboys used to drive wild horses. They'd block off the point and use it as a natural corral. After choosing the horses they wanted legend has it that they'd leave the others there where they would die of dehydration. Damn cowboys.
We needed to kill a few hours until the sun went down and the fish started to bite. We rented a couple of Polaris Razr's and rode up to Sand Mountain. The pink dunes are amazing against the red rock and the blue skies.

I drove the 4-seater
Of course the kids had to climb the biggest rocks
Devin shot this video from the back seat. Pretty funny stuff.
Sometimes the most epic adventures are unplanned.
Started out with an intermediate hike: 2.3 miles and about 700 foot gain. The boys decided to continue on past the trail end about another mile, then ran back to catch up with us before we made the bottom. Weather was perfect and scenery amazing.
We came in under darkness so had no idea what to expect. We woke to some of the most amazing vistas.
